I ordered my Smoothie, 20 oz Angel Food with DD, like i do every morning at Smoothie King, and as i waited and listened to the sound of 6 blenders humming at once, I became aware of the situation. As each of us ordered our Smoothie we then stepped back away from the counter with our backs to the vitiamins and health snacks and stared into space or looked at our cell phones… I watched as a new person came in, ordered his Smoothie.. and took his spot about 5 feet from the counter with the rest of us… no one had told us to stand behind the invisible line… no one had indicated where to stand… so suddenly i decided to try something new… i moved over to the cash register and stood there for a minute.. slowly another person got behind me… then another… till they were now lined up at the cash register… the girl ran over and rung up my smoothie before i had it – then the next person and the next person…
before that, we would wait till our names were called, then move to the counter, take our smoothie, then go to the register and get rung up…
it was amazing to see how one person changing the behavior makes others alter their behavior too…
Do something different… see what happens…
