Like a Rabbit

He carries you in his wallet. Carries me only
from room to room – vain to start, anxious to
continue without conclusions – or pictures
of Mommy and kids- never worth it.
Sweetheart and Old Timer – how you are loved.
Cubed melon soaked in Grand Marnier -sugar rolled,
Parts from the skin, center most desirable -sweet.
Fills his stomach same as the bread she bakes. He
is never satisfied. Give Daddy what he wants.
Unyielding unreasonable unfettered gentleman.
I pleased him to the marrow. Times together, all four.
We shake hands. Don’t kiss me. Whisper things.
She stands with children. Punch and cookie in hand.
The Baker knows me. Gingerbreadgirl -icing to spare.
She waits her turn, shrewd. Can’t catch me!
The things she will be spared, consume this treat,
Legs first.
