Kimberly,

I agree with your view on women not knowing how to behave at times in this social environment, and I also agree that men can deal with a lot of things, but disrespect is not one of them. Do you think that women feel that a man should deserve respect and if he doesn't do things to deserve her respect, should she give it anyway hoping that will turn him into the kind of man she would naturally respect????

One: It's the same disjunction that allows a man to walk into a gas station and purchase a Playboy without most caring... yet half the store having a seizure if the woman bought a sexy mag there. There's still a cultural disjunction in "appropriate" sexual behavior.

Two: While its out of the norm for the American culture, the fascination with minors is mostly being displayed through anime, a Japanese cultural tradition. This is NOT out of the norm for them. Their views on age appropriate attraction limits are substantially different than those in America. Of course, I have my views on cultures that try to convince someone thats gone through puberty that they shouldnt have certain thoughts and feelings of a sexual nature. America's no-no attitude has of course not killed the desire but redirected it, and currently video games are providing an outlet for expression. Its neither right nor wrong, its just what it is.

THREE: The "modern woman" is many things. You're right the strong feminist views of the 80s/90s created some behaviors that made these woman a handful and a challenge. There are more women today though that are just flatout unsure HOW to behave, having been raised with such cultural confusion that they unfortunately dont thrive in ANY direction. One key I think is for women to realize that while its intrinsic for a woman to want love, its intrinsic for a man to want respect. Too many women today spend way too much time bashing their men, often in ways they dont perceive as anything more than playful but that really undermine these guys. A woman has the power to turn her man into a faithful, loving partner she wants, but only if shes going to be willing to provide him the respect he wants. It's a woman's choice. The woman has the power to decide what she gets. The only threat to a woman is her own choices and understanding or lack there of.
