Been thinking about this movie lately. What if someone came into your life, seemed harmless enough, little by little began to emulate you in subtle ways… that got less subtle as time went on… and before you knew it, you were vanishing into thin air in the wake of a cracked mirror image? perhaps you dont know what i mean.. but it can happen.. why are there so many Mayra’s in the world??? I ask you!

A romp! I loved it.
This film is literally a journey. Lovely, and funny, witty and somber. poignant and yet completely frivolous!
3 Brothers (Owen Wilson, Adrien (gorgeous) Brody and Jason Swartsman (also one of the writers) seek what they cannot find. The approval of their mother, the meaning in their fathers life and death, their relationship to eachother… in east asia they discover the answers… and it is a riot to watch…. A must see.

Paris When It Sizzles is a horrible film starring two of my favorite actors, Audrey Hepburn & William Holden. It is just playing in the background of my life right now. It really sucks terribly. The movie, not my life.
Did you know that William Holden was in love with Audrey, and she was mad for him – but alas he had himself snipped before he met her – and she wanted children… so she had to dump his fine behind… but he remained ever vigiliant in his seeking after her… even as a married man, she wrote that he would make improper advances any time they were alone…
Poor Bill… snipped himself right out of her life…
Every time i look up – the film is cheesier than the frame before…
How do actors read scripts like this and say “I’ll DO It!”
They must have wanted to work together again most desperately…
interesante…

ALPHA DOG!
Ok, So I know I watch a lot of movies. I am a workaholic and being on my lap top at night is really boring unless something is playing in the background – so thanks to a combination of DirectOnDemand, TiVO and Blockbuster.com I am always hooked up with movies. My work hours are – after the gym -> 10:30am (in the office) till about 7pm (leave the office) — drinks & sushi (mostly) with friends til about 9:30pm – 10 to 2am (lap top work and movies). So, i guess that is roughly… 1 to 2 movies per night.. WOW!
So here is a film that might be a good flick for when you want to see something you never saw in the theater, had seen the preview a couple times and thought, “i should see that” but then never did… you can download it or rent it… it’s worth the time.. and Justin Timberlake is in it
This would have been completely contrived, over dramatized and self indulgent, if it wasnt a true story…. Justin Timberlake actually gives a pretty good performance. He doesnt over do it. Very much a GUY film. Basically, A bunch of over priveledged, over-sexed, drugged up white kids playing “Gang like games” in the valley when a fight turns bad and ends in the kidnapping and murder of an innocent teenager… apparently 98 in the valley was quite a time for the “wanna be black ganstas – scene”. in a weird way it reminded me of Zodiac… the style and setting.. there was one scene near the end where the green screen technology totally failed and you could clearly see the actors were not at that location.. but other than that.. worth a rent…
Here is a link to an article on the true story that inspired the movie.

Deja Vu:
Pretty Cool. A wild ride. I liked this movie. I wont give away anything. See it if you like action, Denzel and a mildly cool ending. I would say the major problem with it was that they introduce you to this really cool thing that you want to know more about outside of the context of the story.. how it works, what else they are going to use it for, etc… but they tied it so deeply into this one plot that it wasnt the star of the movie, which it really should have been – then they could have done Deja Vu II, and III
It is pretty good and for some reason Jim Cavesial (not sure how you spell his name, Jesus in the Passion) chose to take a tiny role in this film.. which weirded me out.

If you liked “In The Bedroom”, you will love this. Certainly not a fun little jaunt of a film, Little Children is very real…
It examines the calm and seemingly normal lives of suburbans who are anything but satisfied with life… i think it really speaks volumes about the sometimes supressed desires of people whose lives are otherwise devoid of “real” problems. If you are sick, or poor, or opressed, ugly, fat, disliked or damaged in some visible way, people often allow for you to complain about not feeling complete… but if you are in all those ways complete… then nothing could be missing… or could it?
i like the film… i think people should pay more attention to those little pangs of “what if”.. and “why not” to avoid making the bigger mistakes that ruin peoples lives… A must see in my book.
Could Kate Winslet be any more perfect?
WARNING FOR VIEWERS: NUDITY, LAUNGUAGE, SEX.
5 Stars

Current mood: cheerfulCategory: Life So one of my fave movies right now is Marie-Antoinette – I have been listening to the Sound Track Non-Stop! J’adore the “I Love Candy” sequence, because every now and then, i just want clothes, shoes, Jewlery and tons of fatty little cakes and champagne… without those days we will shrivel up and die… or at least i do…
Think of ways to pamper your brain, your soul, your body, your spirit… and be well.

Rotten Tomatoes users were correct, this film has a great deal of posturing, rants, soap boxing and tirades. Whichever side of the political issue you are on, you will most likely find a reason to argue after watching this film. Tom Cruise was not convincing in his role, in fact, it was a bit laughable. Redford was good, but of course, and Meryl as always was realistic although her characters realizations were a bit over the top. I think it is a good way to open discussion if you are looking to debate someone on the issues. Hollywood is so prominently anti-war as a group that it is hard to watch films like this without seeing the propaganda for what it is. I am not Anti-War or Pro-War, but I do wonder sometimes if during WWI & II, had we had the internet, cnn and MSNBC, if we would have acted the same during those campaigns. Reasons are always cloudy during war from a political standpoint, but i cannot help but wonder if during the holocaust, when so many of our troops died – thousands and thousands and thousands of men, if there would have been tons of people only concerned with bringing our troops home and letting that Hitler terrorist guy just go about his business since it really wasn’t our affair to interfere… and he didn’t actually have WMDs to speak of- aside from pure evil. I wager we might not have concerned ourselves so deeply with the fate of millions of oppressed Jews if the news was playing images 24/7 like those in the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan…. what would it have been like to wait till he was really on our doorstep before we stepped in…
i just wonder how much access to instant information (whether correct or complete) has done for us – has it empowered us to be more effective in our choices or has empowered us to instantly judge and react to things before we’ve had a chance to fully comprehend them…. or before the truth will out, so to speak..
I am not saying the current wars are right or wrong – or that any of those past were right or wrong.. there is so much oppression in the world, and we have sometimes been able to step in with good results – being a haven at times for refugees etc.. since we have been more informed via internet and television etc, it seems we have almost become more self focused than ever before.. if the world is truly FLATTENING Thomas Friedman, than why does it seem – now more than ever, the more of the world we have access to the knowledge of, the more we are mostly concerned with ourselves….? i just don’t know…

Current mood: thoughtfulCategory: Movies, TV, Celebrities Bobby
A really well made film that chronicles the final hours before the assasination of Robert Kennedy including the lives of those who were also shot. You don’t see much of Bobby through out the film, and what you do see is actual real footage. His speech at the end played over the aftermath of the shooting is very moving and powerful. A great film. Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, William H. Macey, Heather Grahm, Shia LeBouf, Emilio Esteves, Lindsay Lohan, Elijah Wood, Sharon Stone (who looks like hell in it), Christian Slater, Helen Hunt, Anthony Hopkins, Harry Belefonte, Martin Sheen – everyone did a great job. Not a blockbuster or a great entertainment film, but worth renting… well done, Emilio! |
